Straight Out Of the Camera Sunday - Owl
This is a fake owl that my MIL always put outside to scare the bird away that poop right at her porch. But birds are smart and figured out it's a fake. Even if this thing isn't really working my MIL still put this fake owl(s) in her porch as decoration.

Yep, birds wise up after a while. Sometimes they can be re-fooled if you move the owl around once in a while.
After the owl failed, maybe your MIL, just uses it for a decoration.
