Apatosaurus Exhibit at the Museum, NYC

This is a picture of the Apatosaurus from the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. This skeleton is not only big but it was also long. I tried to take photo in separate but it came out not good.

This specimen of the Apatosaurus was the first sauropod dinosaur ever mounted after the skeleton was collected the specimen was prepared and redied for display a task that took several preparators many years.

As an aid in designing the mount a wooden replica of skeleton was made, so that scientist could visualize the animal in different poses. The finished skeleton was unveiled with the great amount of publicity in 1905.

The head

Apatosaurus is a genus of sauropod dinosaur that lived about 150 million years ago, during the Jurassic Period. It was one of the largest land animals that ever existed. Apatosaurus was a tremendously large long-necked quadrupedal animal with a long whip-like tail. Its forelimbs were slightly shorter than its hindlimbs. One measurement places the total length of species Apatosaurus louisae at 22 m (72 ft).
