Major Catastrophe!!! That was my husband said when our car got flat tires last Saturday. He woke up early Saturday to find out that both the rear view tires are flat. He already noticed it on Friday but ignored it because he was preoccupied by his work. Anyhow, during that day my husband's face was all frown and hard to draw. I asked him whats wrong he just gave the heavy tone answers "its a major catastrophe and its the end of the world. Inside me I laugh but hid it for some reason that i didn't want to upset him. My husband is very serious when it comes to car as if his whole life depends on it. If something wrong happened to his car he react like the world world is over. This kind of thing we need to avoid when we go some place. He is very consistent in checking everything before hitting the road. You don't want to get stuck at the middle of no where because you have car breakdown. Thats the kind of misfortune every drives avoid and don't want to happen. Few weeks ago i read an article at yahoo news from Consumer reports about tips to avoid car breakdown. Read below.

7 Tips to Avoid Car Breakdowns.

1. Dead battery

This is often the culprit when your engine won't start. All batteries weaken over time. In addition, infrequent use, a lot of short trips, or multiple accessories being used when the headlights are on can leave the battery undercharged. If you forget to turn off a light or you listen to the radio with the engine off, the battery could be too weak to start the engine when you need it.

How to prevent it:

Although the effect of a drained battery often shows up on cold mornings, it's the high temperatures of summer that usually do the most damage. So a battery can go at any time. That's why you should have the battery and alternator tested as part of an annual safety inspection.

2. Flat tire or blowout

Flats and blowouts can be caused by a road hazard, a tire defect, or lack of care. At best they interrupt your trip and force you to change the tire or call for assistance; at worst they can cause you to lose control of the vehicle. If you experience either, take a firm grip on the wheel and gently guide the car off the road as soon as possible.

How to prevent it:

Many tire problems result from underinflated tires that overheat. Keep all tires, even the spare, properly inflated to the automaker's recommended pressure by checking them at least monthly. And pay attention to warnings from the car's tirepressure monitoring system, if there is one. Also inspect the tire sidewalls for bulges or cracks. If you see such warning signs, replace the tire immediately. Replacing all four tires at a time is best, and it's a must on all-wheeldrive vehicles.

3. Fluid leak

An undetected leak in a critical system can be devastating, possibly resulting in a blown engine or transmission or even brake failure.

How to prevent it:

Check the car's fluid levels regularly; refer to your owner's manual. Also look for leaks on the pavement where you park. Black drips are oil; green, orange, or yellow are coolant; and brown or reddish oily drips can be transmission or brake fluid. Any of those can spell trouble. Have a mechanic inspect the car if you spot any fresh leaks.

4. Worn-out wipers or no fluid

Many accidents are a result of poor visibility. Often you don't realize your wipers are shot or the washer tank is empty until your visibility is limited, such as in a heavy rain or snowstorm or in the glaring sun with a dirty windshield. And a torn wiper blade can allow the wiper arm to rub against the glass, possibly ruining the windshield.

How to prevent it:

In our tests, we've found that wipers usually degrade in performance after only six months. Get new ones at least twice a year; the Valeo 600 Series, RainX Latitude, Anco 32 Series, and Michelin RainForce top our Ratings. Keep the windshield-washer reservoir full. Pack spare wiper blades and a gallon of nonfreezing washer fluid in the trunk.

5. Blown fuse

When a fuse goes, it can disable a critical electrical system, such as the headlights, defroster, or antilock brake system, any of which could lead to an accident.

What to do:

You can't prevent an electrical problem, but a blown fuse should be the first thing you check if your car experiences one. Carry a selection of spare fuses and a fuse puller in the car; fuse kits (about $5 to $20) are available at auto parts stores. Check your owner's manual for the correct type and amp ratings, and for how to replace them. Never replace a fuse with one of a higher amp rating. If the same fuse blows repeatedly, have a mechanic inspect the system.

6. Broken drive belt

It can disable the car's water pump or alternator, leading to battery failure or engine overheating. And when it comes to maintenance, belts are easy to forget.

How to prevent it:

Periodically check the belts under the hood visually and by feeling them. If any one has cracks or the rubber is fraying or feels brittle, it should be replaced. If there's a lot of slack in the belt, the underside is shiny, or you hear squealing while driving, it should be adjusted or repaired. Most drive belts should be replaced after about 60,000 miles; see your owner's manual.

7. Locked out

We've all done this. At best, it's a minor annoyance; at worst, it's a serious problem when you're in an unsafe environment.

How to prevent it:

Keep a spare door key handy. Some carmakers provide a valet key or a plastic key for emergency use. If it won't fit in a purse or wallet, consider putting it in a magnetic box ($5 to $10) and hiding it beneath the car or behind the license plate. Often a dealer can cut a door key for much less than what a locksmith would charge if you provide the car's vehicle identification number and registration. Telematics services, such as GM's OnStar, can unlock a car remotely.

Online Class

We only have one computer that works like a turtle. It gotten old already and since we can't afford to buy a new computer yet, we have no choice but to deal with it. I only get the chance to use the computer if my husband is not using it. And if he wants to use the computer even if I am in the middle of something important like writing a post or surfing I had to give way. One time I was reading an article about project management software because I want to learn the task. All of a sudden my husband used the computer to check on his online class and emails. The main purpose for our computer is for his job. He needs computer to check emails from his students about their assignments as well as making grades. My husband is a Math professor and he knows some things about computers and software. He tried to explain to me what project management software I research but I was having hard time top absorbed it. I still have to read more about that topic to understand better. I hope next time I read it there would be no disturbance so I can focus on it.

Our Sunday

Got up late today with the sky looking gloomy but then around lunch time the sun came out. So, we drove to downton Pittsburgh going to strip District to get stuff in Asian store.
From Lotus , we headed to the park and had a short walk. Took this cherry blossoms at the park.
We let the little guy practice walking. he was still limping though and don't want to walk with the sole of his feet touches the ground. In this picture we want him to walk normal.
Had the little doll crawl on the ground as well.
We only stated there for less than 30 minutes and as soon as we were about to reach home a loud thunder and big rain started pouring. How about you folks how was your weekend went?

One at a Time

We received our tax refund couple of weeks ago and that is a big help for us. We reserved that refund to pay off some of our debts and buy a new bike for hubby. My mother in-law already gave me a nice bike and still looks new. It was a year old bike because she bought a new one for her last fall. So, hubby's bike was an old one and he'd been using it for more than 5 years now. That tax refund would go to the debts and bike. As much as we want to buy a treadmill I think we have to set that thing aside for now. One at a time and maybe next year we can but a treadmill which is very useful to get some exercise during winter. I have seen cheap treadmill online and other work out equipments that we might buy next year's tax season. For now, bike ride is our focus for healthy exercise aside from taking a walk or run perhaps. How about you, what kind of exercise do you do?

Insurance Company

Finally the insurance company had come and checked the ceilings. This is what I like about the management of this new place we are renting right now. Every time we make a phone call and complain on something they sent right away one of their people to look at it and fix it. After that tremendous snowstorm they had been very busy complying the needs of their tenants as it made lots of damages to most houses in the area that had been hit. They already sent couple of their employee before to looked on the ceiling and since they can't do anything about it they waited for the insurance to take care of it. So yesterday, yesterday an insurance guy came in and took pictures of the ceiling. He also also made measurement of the damaged area and spot. This house was built for almost or more than hundred years now. So, most of the part of this house was already been replaced and some of it are cracking. Still in good condition and the management are trying to maintain it that is why they always respond right away if there is any problem. And since they managed lots of property and apartment it takes a day or two before they can come and check into it.

Actually one of their employee who was the one fixing our bathroom and toilet has a filipina girlfriend in manila and knows few tagalog words because of his girlfriend. The first time he came to our place he didn't get the chance to talk to me because I was busy, so the second time he said hi and told me about his filipina girlfriend. Anyhow, just want to share some update of this ceiling and our humble old abode.

So Tired

I am feeling tired now folks I don't know if I can finish updating my other blog and do some more research that my friend asked me to. My friend was adviced by her doctor to maintain hes diet in order to stay healthy because of her health condition. She wants to try diet pills and ask me to research about nuphedragen. She doesn't have computer at home and goes to internet cafe if she wants to check her mail or chat with me. Dinner Time

I don't understand what it is with pork and chicken why most men love it. My father doesn't eat vegetables and so is my husband. They prefer meat and the fatty part of the pork and chicken thigh are their favorite parts to gobble especially my husband. Lately, I was tired fixing food for dinner so we order out unhealthy food. Then the other day, my husband requested for chicken again so I surf online looking for chicken recipe besides frying. He already lost weight this past days and that is very good for his diet since he has blood pressure. Anyhow, while I was searching for recipe I came across hcg diet recipes which is very useful to those who wants to lose a pound of fat everyday. I showed to my husband the site and had him read the reviews. The review sounds good but he is maintaining prescription pills and rather sticks to his own way of diet. Reading Reviews

The cream for acne that my sister gave to me when I was pregnant with my eldest was already out. Mellow Yellow Monday - Juice in a Yellow Cup

It was my first time to be at the Giant Eagle grocery story that is nearby our place. We were supposed to go to target but my husband can't handle the traffic so he maneuvered and went to Giant Eagle. I found a 5 pieces of sippy cup and this one was one of them. It was cheap but when I used it for Justine and Jake's juice it took a while before they can sip the water or juice in it. In other words they don't like. Jake was just carrying this around because he likes the color and like playing with the orange juice in it.

Sad News

I was chatting to my friend/former co-teacher few hours ago when she told me that they will be going to attend a funeral and to pay respect to her former student in Grade Six. I asked the name of that student and to my surprised he was one of my students in Grade 4 too. The kids is in high school right but when were still in grade school they used to hang out in my classroom at the end of class. He was one of my favorite student in grade four because aside from his being witty and funny he was also talented that is typical for most gay. They used to dance around, sing and do funny stuff that made me laugh. The whole story was, they were out all night for a disco party and on their way home an addict drunk guy came and stubbed him. The kid who stubbed him didn't know what he just did as it was over drug with marijuana, rugby, and injection drug. So, my former student, after he got stubbed they try to asked for help, look for a cab but the cab driver didn't stop. Then they found a tricycle to ride going to the hospital but the tricycle got a flat tired. He was running out of blood when they arrived in the hospital and died. I got goose bumps when I heard this sad news. It saddened my heart thinking that this kids has lots of potentials and life. His life was being taken away for some drug addict. His family was devastated and thinking of revenge. The cop caught the suspect and when the start questioning him he didn't know that he killed an innocent kid.

Our life is full of uncertainties. We really do not know what's gonna happen tomorrow. No one thought that this kid will just pass away on that day. And the most devastated part is his precious life was taken by some drug addict. Drugs now days are so rampant and it kills lots of young people. Despite of the fact that drugs can ruin your life, lots of people still selling it especially to the young people. This kind of thing should be stopped before its too late. Life is precious, so don't waste it.

Bunny Rabbit

We never had easter egg hunt on easter sunday but our nice next door neighbor gave J&J a bunny rabbit. That completed the celebration. She is a very nice old lady and very fond of Jake. She always have something for Jake. Last halloween she gave Jake a jack o' lant ern bear, and then Christmas she gave J&J santa clause and santas helper stuff animal. We are lucky to have a very nice neighbor like her.

Wordless Wednesday - Ceiling

This is what our ceiling in the living room looks like right now. During winter when the snowstorm hits most part in our area and big icicle melted in the our rooftop it created a major damage to our ceiling from the bedroom down to the living room. We already called the management they sent one of their people to look into it but until now hasn't coming back yet. I took pictures of our damaged ceiling from living room to the bedroom and kitchen because the agent asked some pictures. I hope they will fix this soon.
