Dora on Nick!

Contributed by Vickie Tyson

My favorite children's educational programming is Dora the Explorer, which my daughter and I watch on Nick,Jr. on our Satellite Tv from DirecTV. Dora goes on adventures with her friend Boots the monkey to do things such as save the Mermaid Kingdom and help a king find his crown. There are so many different adventures which Dora and Boots go on together. On the adventures, they do things such as count, pick out colors, point out animals and the noises they make and teach kids about sharing and respecting one another. Another plus is that they say different words in Spanish, so kids can pick up on Spanish when watching Dora the Explorer. Watching Dora has taught my 23 month old daughter so much. She is not even two and she knows colors and shapes and has a wider range of vocabulary than most two year olds. To my surprise, she even says "hola" every once in a while. Dora has been around for years teaching kids excellent skills and values and my daughter has loved her since she was a 16 months old. I can only imagine how much more she is going to retain as she continues to watch Dora. I think that Dora is one of the best educational shows on TV because it teaches kids so much and it is definitely not boring! Plus, it seems to be suited for and enjoyed by all ages.
