Global Leadership Adventures Offers Exciting Teen Volunteer Abroad Program

Global Leadership Adventures, an independent US-based organization recognized as one of the leading high school service learning programs, inspires the next generation to realize their potential to transform the world and their role in it by offering teen summer community service programs abroad. Programs are open to students from all over the world between the ages of 14 and 18.

GLA student voluntourists have many travel options available, whether its “Creating a sustainable world” in the Dominican Republic, “History meets globalization” in China, or to go beyond the movies and discover “Kilimanjaro: The heart and soul of Africa.” Applications for summer programs are received through May.

Student participants of Global Leadership Adventures are expected to be respectful of the host country, its history, and its cultural and natural resources. Voluntourism is not for everyone, but for the best of us, who want to give the best of themselves.

Since 1958, and the foundation of Volunteer Service Overseas, and the formation of the Peace Corps in 1961, through the rapid growth of Study Abroad programs in the 1970’s, and Volunteer Tourism Research in the late 1990’s, voluntary service with travel has become the way to combine social responsibility and tourism. The term “voluntourism,” coined in 1998 by the Nevada Board of Tourism, in an effort to attract local residents to volunteer to support the development of rural tourism in remote locations of the state.
